Beloved health care worker takes the mound before some of her biggest fans
EAST PEORIA (WEEK) - Illinois Central College softball player Hanna Evans had her own cheering section on Tuesday.
Evergreen Senior Living residents were in the stands as Evans, a pitching standout, took the mound at ICC’s Thome Fields against Heartland Community College.
Evans is a part-time Certified Nursing Assistant at Evergreen, and residents under her care said they adore her and wanted to see her play.
“We always said we wish we could come to one of your games,” said Evergreen resident Betty Lansford.
“I worked hard enough to get them to do it, and I went around to make sure enough people came, so we can come see Hanna’s game,” said Lansford.
Evans said she appreciates the support.
“It really means that they care about me and they follow along with everything I do,” said Evans.
“They came to support me and the rest of the team, and it means a lot to me that they came out here,” she said.
The Evergreen residents may have been a good luck charm for Evans, who attended Illinois Valley Central High School in Chillicothe.
ICC won Tuesday afternoon’s game by a score of 10-2.
