Bloomington Police investigate city’s first homicide of 2022

BLOOMINGTON (25 NEWS) - A 29-year-old man is dead in Bloomington’s first homicide of the year.

Bloomington Police were dispatched to the 600 block of West Jefferson Street for a person who had been shot, locating a 29-year-old man in an apartment with a gunshot wound.

At 8:45 p.m., McLean County Coroner Kathleen Yoder responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased, according to a police department release.

The victim’s identity will not be released until next of kin is notified.

No arrests have been made at this time. No suspect information is available and there are no other injuries to report.

“I am saddened by this unnecessary loss of life and I send my condolences to the victim’s family. If anyone has information related to this senseless act or any other, please reach out to us. As always, we need your help to keep our community safe,” said Bloomington Police Chief Jamal Simington.
