Susan G. Komen ‘MORE THAN PINK’ Walk returns Mother’s Day weekend
PEORIA (25 NEWS) - The Susan G. Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk is officially returning to Peoria the Saturday of Mother’s day weekend, taking place on Saturday, May 7 at the Metro Centre.
Executive Director Gayle Young says they are ready to get back to the weekend this community has celebrated for so many years.
The fundraising goal for this year’s Peoria MORE THAN PINK Walk is $250,000. Funds raised by the community support Komen’s investments in breakthrough research, needed patient care public policy action at all levels of government, and so much more.
The community can now register at www.komen.org/peoriawalk and registration for the Peoria MORE THAN PINK Walk is free.
All participants who raise a minimum of $100 will receive a commemorative event t-shirt. Additionally, all survivors and those living with metastatic breast cancer will receive a special t-shirt recognizing their role in the event. Registered participants will also have access to interactive Walk experiences through the MORE THAN PINK Walk App and enjoy a morning filled with celebration, education, and reflection for how far we’ve come in the fight.
Participants who register and make a self-donation by Sunday, January 16th will be entered into a drawing for one of two $100 gift cards. Each winner will be able to choose which Metro Centre store they would like their $100 gift card to be selected from.
The Komen Memorial team will also be announcing and introducing the 2022 Central Illinois BigWigs as they help to kick off the Opening Ceremony.
Komen Memorial hosted its first BigWigs campaign last May/June, raising over $92,000 for Susan G. Komen. BigWigs introduces ten local individuals who have committed to raising awareness and funds for breast cancer while wearing a fun, pink wig to events, meetings, appointments, and all around town.
The opening ceremony kicks off at 8 a.m.
May 7 will mark the 37th annual event.
