CHAMPAIGN (25 NEWS) - Thursday night was a special one at the State Farm Center, the Illini honored legendary player Ayo Dosunmu at halftime of their game against Maryland. Dosunmu, now a Chicago Bull, made the trip down to Champaign to have his No. 11 jersey hung up in the rafters at the place where he became a collegiate star.

“It was crazy just knowing the legacy and the mark I left here, not just on the court but with building relationship with guys and the coaching staff and players,” said Dosunmu. “That’s what it’s all about, building bonds and building relationships that can never be taken away, that last forever and I thought I did that here with the guys at Illinois.”

Just as important as honoring Dosunmu, the Illini (11-3, 4-0) picked up another Big Ten win over Maryland (8-6, 0-3) 76-64. Star center Kofi Cockburn compiled 23 points and 18 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the season. Cockburn posted those numbers despite being in foul trouble and sitting for most of the first half. Trent Frazier added in 16 points, Alfonso Plummer had 12 points, and Peoria-native Da’Monte Williams had 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals.

Illinois is back on the court Tuesday Jan. 11 at Nebraska (6-9, 0-4), where the Illini will aim to move to 5-0 in Big Ten play. Illinois is 4-0 in conference play for the first time since the 2009-10 season and is now riding an eight-game Big-Ten winning streak, dating back to last season.
