Former prosecutor to face Bloomington’s Dan Brady in Secretary of State’s race
SPRINGFIELD (25 NEWS) - Former U.S. Attorney John Milhiser is seeking the Republican nomination for Illinois Secretary of State, while one of his opponents in the GOP Primary released a long list of endorsements he’s received in the race to replace retiring Democratic incumbent Jesse White.
John Milhiser was the U.S. Attorney for Central District of Illinois during the Trump Administration and is a former Sangamon County State’s Attorney.
“As the next Secretary of State, I will continue to work to end the culture of corruption that has been fostered for decades in this state,” Milhiser said in a statement released Tuesday.
Milhiser said he’ll run the office of more than 4,000 employees with “zero tolerance for corruption and demand efficient and effective service to taxpayers.”
Milhiser is running in the primary against longtime State Rep. Dan Brady of Bloomington and Chicago-based reporter and broadcaster William J. Kelly.
The same day Milhiser announced his intentions, Brady sent out a news release listing endorsements from 46 GOP officeholders. They include Congressmen Darin LaHood and Rodney Davis, State Representatives Mark Luft, Keith Sommer, and Tom Bennett, and House Republican Leader Jim Durkin.
The primary election is June 28.
