TAZEWELL COUNTY (25 News) - As shoppers browse around for holiday deals, small business owners are hoping to gain new customers and support for their dream on small business Saturday.

Amy Morgan has owned her flower shop, Le Fleur Floral Design, in Washington for eight years.

Morgan and her employees make arrangements for events like weddings and decorate homes for the community.

Morgan said when customers support her small business, it provides a helping hand to many.

“It’s putting revenue and money into the pocket of these employees,” Morgan said.

“They’re not here to become millionaires. They’re just truly here to fulfill their dreams and their creative juices,” she continued. “You have to thank your customers because every dollar spent, even just coming in, it makes a huge difference.”

Tammy Smith owns ‘The Picker’s Daughter’ in East Peoria.

It’s a local shop where around 80 vendors sell all kinds of products like clothes, accessories, art, antiques, and other homemade handicrafts.

Smith said customer support around this time of year means everything, especially during the pandemic.

“It’s been a steady nice flow of traffic all day,” Smith said.

“A lot of people picking up Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers. It’s nice to see the community with their support come in and shop at our shop,” Smith added.

Smith said those who shop small can get their items a lot faster.

“Especially now with shipping costs and worrying about getting items before Christmas,” Smith said.

“You can come into these types of places or restaurants and get gift certificates and get it that day,” she added.
