CREVE COEUR (25 News) - Hundreds attended a candlelit vigil Saturday night to honor a pre-teen killed in a house fire earlier this week.

Madelynn McCain lost her life in a Wednesday morning house fire in Creve Coeur.

At the vigil, members of Madelynn’s family shared words before a local pastor read some lines of scripture. Those who attended the vigil held candles, roses, balloons and photos of Madelynn.

Her family, including her mother Margaret. praised the Creve Coeur Police Department and other first responders for their support throughout the week.

Margaret McCain remembered her daughter in an emotional interview and tells us the community’s support means so much to the family.

“[Madelynn] would light up a room anywhere she went,” McCain said. “She always made people happy no matter where she went. Lots of people came and I love it. And I’m thankful. You people are amazing.”

The Creve Coeur Veterans of Foreign Wars Post is hosting a benefit auction January 29 along with a chili supper and a 50-50 raffle. All of the proceeds will go to the McCain family.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with expenses.
