Spirit of giving on display at Peoria County business
PEORIA (25 NEWS) - A Thanksgiving tradition that’s lasted nearly a decade, a Glasford restaurant and bar wants no one to go without a festive meal or be alone for the holiday.
This is the ninth year Whitetails Fire Pit and Grill, on East Main Street in Glasford, has opened its doors and offered free Thanksgiving meals.
The doors opened at 11 a.m., and several people in the community joined in the effort.
Volunteer Anthony Wirth, a retired lieutenant colonel, has spent many Thanksgivings deployed and serving the country. Thursday, he served his neighbors, starting cooking and grilling the turkeys at 2 a.m.
“Some people would have no place to go, and they open up the restaurant on Thanksgiving for the community, and I asked if I could cook all the turkeys, and I did it last night,” said Wirth.
Wirth said he plans on catching up on his sleep after a job well done.
