PEORIA (25 NEWS) - There will be extra police barriers and city vehicles blocking several downtown streets and sidewalks, after the events in Waukesha, according to Peoria Police.

“We want everyone to feel safe and have a memorable experience for some of our most popular annual holiday events says Brad Dixon, Peoria Assistant Police Chief. “We have added some additional security precautions to compliment this year’s festivities.”

Police say the additional precautions will provide an extra measure of safety for people standing along the parade route.

The parade route will begin at Monroe and Bryan, proceed to Main Street, and make a left on Main to Adams Street, left on Adams Street and end at Hamilton. The parade route will not include Jefferson or Liberty Streets. Extra police barriers will be stationed along this route.

Because of the additional security, police say to expect heavy traffic downtown Thursday and Friday morning from 9-11:30 a.m.
