Peoria Train Fair is back
PEORIA (WEEK) - After a year off, due to COVID-19, local train fans were able to enjoy their hobby once more.
Illinois Central College campus hosted this event twice a year at their East Peoria campus.
Over 30 vendors came out to sell different mini-train gear.
There were vintage and modern model trains, tracks to build, books and movies about trains.
River City Model Railroad Club President Mark MacGregor said many families came out with young children who are just getting into the hobby.
“There’s just something magical,” MacGregor said, “I mean kids love trains and parents love when kids love trains. When kids are happy about the trains, the parents are happy that the kids are happy. You can also, just use your imagination and you can create any kind of world you want with any kind of thing you want.”
Pekin’s River City Model Railroad Club teamed up with the Illinois Valley Model Railroad Club in Peoria to put on the event.
They said hundreds of people showed up each year, and many left with a new hobby.
“People may not think they like trains but they really do, they just don’t know it yet. If you get caught by a train, the kids in the back seat yelling,
“Dad a train!”
and the dad’s in the front seat yelling,
“Ugh a train.” but then when they realize. The engineer will wave at you, you always wonder where they are going,” MacGregor said.
The next train fair was be in February 2022 at ICC in East Peoria.
