PEORIA (25 NEWS) - Four people were hospitalized - three in critical condition - after a fire ripped through a Peoria home early Sunday morning.

Just after 2:00 a.m., crews responded to a home on North Wisconsin Avenue, near the corner of Willcox Avenue for a report of a fire.

Officials say two people were still trapped in the home upon arrival, and smoke was seen coming from the kitchen window.

One of the people trapped inside reportedly crawled out of a bathroom window, and the second person was rescued from inside the bathroom by first responders.

There was a total of seven people living in the home, and it was a young child who woke up and alerted the others of the fire. Officials say a dog died as a result of the fire.

Four people were immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment, and one was transported to a specialized burn treatment unit in Springfield.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire in 15 minutes, and they estimate the damage is around $10,000.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
