UPDATE: Family and friends of Dequwan Pruitt said he had just come back from Rayton Brock’s funeral.

Brock was gunned down weeks prior.

At the funeral, police said they were threats and some commotion.

Hours later, Pruitt was shot multiple times.

Police said they were frustrated with the constant violence.

“It’s frustrating. It is frustrating. That we have this type of violence in our city, and this is what we’ve come to,” Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria said. “Young men in our community don’t know how to deal with the issues they’re facing. Quick to pull a gun out and shoot somebody.”

Peoria had 30 homicides in 2021, 8 of the victims were under 20-years-old.

UPDATE: 1 P.M. - Peoria Public Schools spokesperson Thomas Bruch confirms to 25 News that Pruitt was a student at Richwoods High School.
