25 Women in Leadership: Dr. Kari Rockwell
August 20, 2021
Dr. Kari Rockwell became the superintendent of Fieldcrest Community Unit School District #6 in January 2020 -- just three months prior to the pandemic.
This is her first superintendent position. The school district six covers 246 square miles and includes the communities of Dana, LaRose, Minonk, Rutland, Toluca, and Wenona. The onslaught of the pandemic proved Kari to be a true leader as she rose to the occasion and stayed ahead of the ever-changing landscape in education, adjusting to continuous changes in state guidelines and protocols.
And she did all of this with an on-going faith in the success of her faculty and students.
Kari’s employees say she earned rockstar status during the pandemic. Dr. Rockwell kept the school district running smoothly and took great care of her staff and students during this difficult time.
Kari made sure every student had the resources they needed to succeed. Students were offered either in-person, five days a week instruction or remote learning. For those opting to take classes remotely, she made sure each of those students had internet access by securing MiFi devices for those who could not afford or could not reach internet access.
