CENTRAL ILLINOIS (25 NEWS) - Round one of the football playoffs ends with a tough Saturday for Central Illinois big schools. In 5A play, Peoria High falls to Chicago Morgan Park. In 4A, Peoria Notre Dame loses to Wheaton St. Francis.

Champaign Centennial gets a win in 6A and will host Washington in Round 2.

Also a tough day for Mid-Illini teams, both Metamora and Dunlap lose in the first round.

In 2A play, Farmington, Tremont, Tri-Valley and Dee-Mack are all winners. Prairie Central gets a win in 3A and Ridgeview-Lexington advances in 1A. Meanwhile, Eureka and Elmwood-Brimfield both lose Saturday.

In soccer, Bloomington Central Catholic ends its best season in school history with a third place finish defeating Timothy Christian in penalty kicks 3-2. In 2A, Normal West falls to Urbana 1-0 in penalty kicks in the Bloomington Sectional final.

Saturday was sectional championship day for cross country. In the 1A Elmwood Sectional, Normal U-High wins the boys team title with Olympia in second. For the girls, Eureka wins the team title lead by runner-up individual Anna Perry.

In the 2A Metamora Sectional, Morton wins the boys team title lead by second place finisher Cade Zobrist and third place finisher Yonas Wuthrich. Limestone’s Wilson Georges wins the boys individual title. For the girls, Dunlap takes the team title with Normal U-High finishing second and Peoria Notre Dame third. Normal U-High’s Delaney Fitzgerald wins the individual title with Peoria Notre Dame’s Teagan Cover finishing second and Dunlap’s Kate Robertson third.

Cross Country state finals are next weekend in Peoria.
