Morton Veteran gets same prestigious medal twice, decades apart

Posted: Updated:

At just 22 years old, a Morton man was awarded the U.S. Military's prestigious Silver Star Medal. Now, more than 60 years later, he's getting that same recognition.

It's the third-highest decoration for valor in combat. And Monday, Congressman Darin LaHood replaced the medal with a new one.

James Anderson is a Korean War Veteran who was credited with fighting off enemies alone with only hand grenades, saving several lives.

"I was on the front line with the big guns. They were probably an eighth of a mile behind us and they went on continuously," recall Anderson.

Anderson credits his wife, Alice, for his strength, calling her "his backbone".
