Protesters take to Peoria streets to get city council's attention

Posted: Updated:
PEORIA, Ill. (WEEK) -

Members of Peoria 'No Ban, No Wall' and the Peoria 'Keeping Families Together' Organization' protested Saturday afternoon at the intersection of University and Main St, to send a city wide message...make Peoria a 'Welcoming City'.

The same members of those organizations worked with Peoria Public Schools to pass a 'Safe Haven Resolution', which helps protect children of undocumented families.

The two groups displayed signs like "honk to welcome immigrants and 'Dump Trump'  hoping to mobilize the community to not only accept immigrants, but to help change policies that turn them away, by reaching out to city council and pushing for that ordinance.

Participants say they will peacefully protest every Saturday from noon to 1pm until city council passes that ordinance.
