UPDATE 4:33 AM: Fire heavily damages a home in Morton.
Flames broke out just before 11 PM Thursday night in the 500 block of East Tyler Street.
It took firefighters 45 minutes to put out the flames, mainly because it was in hidden spaces in the attic area of the house.
A family of five was living in the home, but was not inside when the fire broke out.
"They had left the house, and came back when they were told about it, so no one was home at the time," said Morton Fire Department Chief Joe Kelley. "There was one cat that somehow got out on its own, and then we managed to find and bring out the other cat alive."
No one was hurt.
Investigators do not know yet how the fire started.
UPDATE: 11:31 p.m. Witnesses say the family of 5 that lives at the house on Tyler were not home at the time. They did have family pets, one cat, that was not injured and made it out alive and a second cat that is still missing at this time.
Flames and smoke continue to pour out of the house as fire and rescue crews are on scene.
A house fire has been reported at 505 E. Tyler Street in Morton Illinois. The call came into Tazewell dispatch at 10:52 p.m.
25 News has been told there is no confirmation that the owners have been removed from the structure.
