UPDATE (6:00PM 7/5) - Though more information hasn't been released about the pair of shootings, a third similar shooting occurred early Wednesday morning in the same location near Wayne & Adams.
A single male was brought to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the calf, according to a police report. Officers investigating the scene recovered bullets found in nearby apartments.
These three shootings are just the latest in a violent year for Peoria. Peoria Police information shows that the number of gun-related homicides by mid-year compared to previous years is up, as are the number of victims involved in each shooting (fatal or not).
"It's not just when crime occurs that we need to be talking with people, its when I may not be doing anything right now and just stop on the corner and talk with you," explained Captain Mike Scally with Peoria Police, when asked how to help police-community relations. "And those contacts are what forms the great community relationships."
Two separate shooting incidents within 30 minutes of each other have left three men, and two juveniles injured in Peoria.
The first shooting happened just before 1 AM in the area of Wayne and Adams Street in Peoria's North Valley area.
Three people, including two juveniles, were dropped off by private vehicle at a local hospital with gunshot wounds.
A second shooting report came in via a shots fired call around 1:30 AM at the Red Roof Inn on War Memorial.
Police tell us there are two male victims.
All five victims are considered to have non-life threatening injuries.
There are no arrests, and it is unclear if any of these shootings are connected.
