UPDATE: Victim identified in fatal Peoria stabbing

PEORIA, Ill. (WEEK) -- -

A 56-year-old Peoria man was booked into the Peoria County Jail just after midnight in connection with a Monday stabbing death. 

James L. Watkins, 56, of 2704 W. Flint, was charged with one count of second-degree murder in Peoria County Court on Tuesday in connection with the stabbing death of 29-year-old Kang H. Abel of Peoria at Parkview Estates, 2401 N. Gale. The man was found with stab wounds behind Building H. 

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said Abel suffered two stab wounds in his lower abdomen. Abel was taken to OSF Saint Francis, where he was pronounced dead. 

Watkins claimed self-defense in court. 

Bond was set at $300,000 for Watkins. He is due again in Peoria County Court for a preliminary hearing on August 2.
