Chicken ordinance to be voted on by East Peoria City Council

Posted: Updated:
EAST PEORIA, Ill. (WEEK) -- -

Despite agreeing to not vote on it earlier this month, the East Peoria City Council reverses course, and will vote on a proposed chicken ordinance Tuesday night.

According to the East Peoria Code of Ordinances, chickens are among numerous animals that people are not allowed to own, use, keep, or permit in city limits.

In the ordinance, if these animals are found in the city limits, they will be impounded, and may be given other penalties.

The Zoning Board of Appeals has recommended the council approve the measure, but some residents are concerned about increased noise, rodents, and other odors.

Tuesday night's city council meeting begins at 6 PM at City Hall.
