A New Mexico man was cited in a crash which took the life of a 25-year-old Chenoa woman.

The Illinois State Police said a tire on Robert Harris, Jr.'s truck-tractor's tire blew out on Interstate 55 near Lexington. The truck was slowly driving on the right shoulder of I-55 southbound when it approached an abandoned vehicle on the shoulder. The truck-tractor entered the right lane to go around the abandoned vehicle on the shoulder when a car driven by Katelyn Erdman, 25, rear-ended it.

Erdman's car was lodged underneath the sweetener-laden trailer of Harris Jr.'s truck-tractor.

Southbound I-55 was closed for several hours. Erdman was pronounced dead on scene. Her 6-month-old daughter survived the crash.

Harris Jr. faces citations for violation of minimum speed regulations, passing a vehicle on the shoulder of the road, and use of unsafe tires.

Erdman's family is asking for memorials to fund her daughter's education.
