Central Illinois under heat advisory this weekend as temperatures spike

Posted: Updated:

A heat advisory is in effect across the region through the weekend as heat indices soar past three digits.

High temperatures will reach the low to mid 90s through the weekend, with a head index of 100 to 105 degrees possible on the afternoons Saturday through Monday.

The National Weather Service recommends drinking plenty of water, wearing light clothing and staying out of the sun if possible. If outside, take frequent breaks. Stay in an air-conditioned room if possible, and check up on your relatives and neighbors. Know the signs of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

The heat advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Monday.

Runners in the "Steamboat Classic" Saturday morning will race in hot and humid conditions as temperatures will range from 75 to 80 at race time, and if you're going to the Cub/Cardinal series in St. Louis this weekend, St. Louis is under an Excessive Heat Warning which means heat index values of 105 to 110.
