CHICAGO (WEEK) -- -

No need for taking an ACT or SAT at University of Chicago.  The U of Chicago is done requiring American undergraduate applicants to submit those classic, standardized tests.

The decision is part of the U-Chicago empower initiative.  Designed to help even the playing field for low income and first generation students.

Some liberal arts colleges have also stopped requiring ACT and SAT scores, but U of Chicago is the first major research university to do so.

Another part of the initiative is the university providing full tuition aid for students whose families earn less than 125 thousand dollars a year!

New scholarships for military veterans and children of veterans, police officers and firefighters have also been introduced.
