The Pekin Police Department said a malfunction of Burger King's electronic card readers is to blame for numerous card charges showing up on people's accounts.
The police department said the charges are legitimate, but an error with the chain's readers caused back charges from the past several weeks to be sent to customer's bank accounts for payment.
"Our police investigation showed no indications that fraud had or has taken place. Citizens are encouraged to contact the police department if after reading this explanation, they still believe the charges are fraudulent," said a statement from the police department.
Our station received questions from several people who noticed the charges on their accounts.
