Posted: Updated:
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WEEK) -- -

The first pool of mosquitoes to test positive for West Nile Virus in McLean County was recently found.

A pool testing positive was found in the 61705 ZIP code, the rural area surrounding much of the Twin Cities. The McLean County Health Department is reminding people to reduce their exposure to mosquitoes, repel them, and report dead birds or standing water sources.

Symptoms of the virus can show up 13 to 14 days after an initial infection. Mild cases can cause a slight fever or headache, while severe infections cause high fevers, disorientation, paralysis or even death.
