The Normal Fire Department is using a new outdoor warning system which will serve Uptown Normal and the surrounding area. On Friday morning, the town will test the public address features of the new system between 10 a.m. and noon.
“What makes this system unique from the other mechanical sirens in town, is that in addition to siren tones for tornadoes or severe weather, we can also use it to broadcast pre-recorded or live voice messages to the public,” said Fire Chief Mick Humer.
The testing Friday is to help make adjustments to the system's audio and ensure the voice messages are clear and free of interference, the fire department said.
