UPDATE: Man killed in early Thursday shooting in Central Peoria identified

PEORIA, Ill. (WEEK) -- -

UPDATE 2:30 PM: The Peoria County Coroner has identified the shooting victim on W. Willcox as 43-year-old Timothy Jackson. 

The coroner said Jackson's body was found slumped over the wheel of a car in front of a house on the 600 block of W. Willcox just after 6:30 a.m  First responders removed the man's body. The coroner said he was obviously deceased, so resuscitation was not attempted. He was pronounced dead just after 8 a.m. 

The coroner said Jackson suffered four entrance wounds and a graze wound. He was struck in the head, chest and torso. The caliber of the gun is not known. He most likely died instantly, the coroner said. 

It is unknown how many times Jackson was shot. An autopsy is ongoing. The death is under investigation as a homicide by the Peoria Police Department.

7:50 AM UPDATE: The Peoria County Coroner's office has confirmed that they are on the scene of this morning's shooting.

It happened at a home in the 600 block of West Willcox around 6:30 a.m. Thursday.

Peoria police say they were notified of the shooting via a ShotSpotter alert. Police said an unidentified male victim was shot in the head. The man was pronounced dead on the scene. 

Police believe the man was returning home when the incident happened. 

There are no arrests at this time.

Police confirm to 25 News that a ShotSpotter alert came in around 6:30 AM Thursday in the 600 block of Wilcox.

There, they found one person with gunshot wounds.
