A man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle on Friday night just north of Peoria's downtown.
Police, firefighters and Advanced Medical Transport responded to the 600 block of NE Adams just after 9 p.m. Francisco C. Jaral, 42, of Peoria, was taken to OSF Saint Francis, where he was pronounced dead at 9:46 p.m.
The Peoria Police Department said Jaral was walking in the middle of the road when he was struck by the vehicle. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, and no citations have been issued, police said. The coroner said it is unknown why Jaral was crossing the street at that time or where he was going.
Jaral's autopsy and toxicology screening was originally set for Saturday, but was rescheduled for Sunday.
"This is the third pedestrian death in just one week in Peoria. Please use extreme caution when crossing the street at night in areas where there are no cross walks, walk signs, or areas that are poorly lit," said Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood.
Last Saturday, Kendrick Young of Peoria died after he was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Knoxville and Nebraska. Jesenia Contreras, also of Peoria, died Monday of her injuries after a separate pedestrian versus vehicle accident at Loucks and Avalon.
All three incidents happened after dark. The drivers in the first two accidents stopped and cooperated with police.
