Tuesday night some of our local veterans returned home from a once in a lifetime trip.
And, when the Honor Flight touched down, there was a huge crowd at Peoria's Wayne A. Downing International Airport waiting for them.
In all, 70 veterans enjoyed a trip to Washington D.C. to visit memorials for World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. They also enjoyed a trip to the Iwo Jima Memorial and the Naval memorial at Arlington National Cemetery where they got to witness the changing of the guard.
But, perhaps most important of all, they were treated to a large crowd when they returned home, getting the hero's welcome they deserved, something some of them missed out on when they returned from fighting years ago.
