The Peoria Police Department is investigating a Peoria man for homicide after his 74-year-old father died.
Police responded to a house in the 1800 block of S. Stanley just before 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, May 2 on a report of a man down inside the residence. Paramedics and officers were unable to get inside the house to treat Frank Runyon because his son, Mark Runyon, 38, would not open the door, police said.
After a half hour, emergency responders got inside and found the 74-year-old Runyon with severe facial injuries. The man also had several brain bleeds. He died at a Peoria hospital on Monday, May 7 just before 10 p.m. An autopsy showed he had multiple blunt force injures to the head and chest.
The Peoria Journal Star reports Mark Runyon is the son of Frank Runyon.
Runyon was arrested initially for abuse or neglect of the elderly for his failure to open the door to allow emergency responders to help the man.
Police are calling the incident a "death investigation" at this time. The coroner said the death is being investigated as a homicide.
