WASHINGTON (WEEK) -- -

T-Boz of the 90’s girls' music group TLC has announced she's headed to Washington, D.C. to call for change and honor the memory of her cousin, a Peoria man killed in a confrontation with police last year.

"The Thursday before Mothers' Day women across the country, including my cousin Anita Johnson, on behalf of my cousin Eddie Russell, Jr., will ascend on Washington D.C. to advocate for new legislation and police reform,” said T-Boz, whose real name is Tionne Watkins.

The pop star shared the message on Facebook to promote an initiative called "Stand Together."

Her cousin, Eddie Russell, Jr., was fatally shot in a standoff with Peoria police last September. Six officers were cleared in that shooting following an investigation.

Russell's family maintained he had mental health issues that affected his actions.
