Prosecutors are pointing to gambling as a potential reason why a Putnam County man allegedly murdered his own sister-in-law.

The Peoria Journal Star is reporting those allegations were made in a pre-trial hearing. It's the first possible motive given in court in the death of 62 year old Deborah Dewey.

She was reported missing in 2016. Her body was found in a shallow grave behind a home in Standard three weeks later.
Her brother-in-law, Clifford Andersen, is charged with first-degree murder.
