Police seen outside Pekin City Hall during a recent pipe bomb scare.
PEKIN, Ill. (WEEK) -- -
Pekin City Hall will see some cleaning work done while workers address a mold issue.
The city found cladosporium and hyphae in the building after a routine repair job. Both molds are frequently found both indoors and outdoors. Though neither is toxic, both can be allergenic and irritate asthma.
The city will begin working on the issue at 8 a..m on Wednesday on the second floor and basement, then proceed to the first floor. Work should be wrapped up by Friday, May 18. The city said the remediators will take precautions to avoid unnecessary exposure to or the spread of mold spores. Negative pressure equipment will be used wherever possible, and non-cleanable materials will be thrown away and replaced.
Other parts will be cleaned by the city's regular HVAC service company. Air purifiers will also be installed. Workspaces will be sealed off from 1 to 3 hours during remediation work.
