Germantown Hills man who jumped off bridge sentenced on attempted murder charges

A Germantown Hills man who jumped off the McClugage Bridge into the Illinois River after a domestic battery incident was sentenced to 22 years in prison Thursday. 

Bret Davis, 43, fled a Germantown Hills neighborhood after a domestic incident which left a woman bleeding from the head. Police were called after Davis was reported driving recklessly through the Bittersweet Ave. neighborhood, almost hitting a construction flagger. Davis' vehicle headed toward East Peoria. 

Shortly after, Davis' vehicle hit a guard rail while crossing the McClugage Bridge. He then got out and jumped into the Illinois River below. His injuries were non life-threatening. He was pulled out of the river by the Peoria Fire Department. 

Davis was sentenced Thursday on multiple counts, including 22 years for attempted murder. He also was sentenced on aggravated assault while operating a motor vehicle, domestic battery, and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He will serve all sentences concurrently.
