SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WEEK) -- -

A fallen state trooper from Central Illinois was honored Thursday in a ceremony in the state capitol.

Trooper Ryan Albin, 37, died in June 2017 after his vehicle was involved in a crash with a truck on Interstate 74 near Farmer City. Albin's K9 partner, Biko, was in the backseat and suffered minor injuries. Biko has since returned to duty.

The truck driver, a Normal man, and his passenger refused medical treatment at the scene. The Champaign News-Gazette reported Albin's vehicle struck the truck just before reaching a construction zone.

Albin grew up near Bellflower in McLean County and graduated from Blue Ridge High School in Farmer City. He went on to graduate from Eureka College before joining the Illinois State Police.

"We will always continue to honor him. We will continue to shed tears. We will continue to recall stories and memories. We will continue to share how special he was," said Illinois State Police District 10 in a Facebook post.

Albin was among six fallen officers honored in the Springfield ceremony.
