Many area police departments be on the prowl for distracted drivers during the second half of April.

Departments are reminding drivers they can expect a ticket if they are using a phone or otherwise distracted while behind the wheel. From April 16-30, departments will look for people talking on the phone or texting while driving as part of a campaign between police departments and the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The average text takes a driver's eyes off the road for 4.6 seconds, which officials say is the equivalent of driving blind at 55 miles per hour for the length of an entire football field.
