Fairbury community raises enough money for K9 officer

Posted: Updated:
FAIRBURY, Ill. (WEEK) -- -

The city of Fairbury has raised enough money to recruit their very own K9 officer to the police force.

Thirty-four days ago, the Fairbury Police Department received the go-ahead to start raising funds for a K9 program. Thirteen days ago, area businesses created a matching challenge with $50,600 to encourage community contributions.

On April 9, Fairbury, Forrest and surrounding Livingston County residents pooled enough funding to purchase a K9 officer. A K9 officer typically costs between $80,000 and $100,000.

The dog will arrive to its new home in Fairbury on April 17.
