STREATOR, Ill. (WEEK) -- -

A Peoria man was uninjured when his vehicle was struck by a train Saturday afternoon in LaSalle County.

The Streator Police Department said James Murphy, 50, was headed eastbound in the 800 block of E. Main when his vehicle was struck by a BNSF train headed northbound at about 35 miles per hour.

Police said the crossing gates were in the down position, with warning lights and bells activated. Police said Murphy drove around the crossing gates and was struck by the oncoming train.

Murphy was cited for disobeying a signal indicating the approaching of a train and is set to appear in LaSalle County Court on May 25.

The incident remains under investigation by Streator police and the BNSF police.
