The Normal Police Department has launched a campaign aimed at ending victim shaming in cases of sexual assault. As part of this, they've released a powerful PSA online. In it 3 women are featured in this video.. all sharing details of their sexual assaults.
In one part, one young woman shares, "He claims he tried to help me, but his way of helping me was dragging me to my bedroom... I woke up to him leaning me against my bed and taking off my shirt.... he kept going."
April is Sexual Assault Awareness month.
Together Normal Police and McLean County State's Attorney's office are reminding people sexual assault is a crime. And, as part of their "Be the Change" campaign, they're also urging the public to stop placing blame on victims.
