The head of the Peoria Police Department's criminal investigation division was arrested Wednesday on DUI charges.
Lt. Michael Boland, 47 was cited just after 5 a.m. Wednesday for driving under the influence of alcohol, improper traffic lane usage, and driving one to 10 miles above the speed limit. A Peoria police spokesman said Boland is on paid administrative leave pending investigation. We're also told Boland was not driving a city vehicle.
The Illinois State Police arrested Boland. He bonded out with $100 later Wednesday. He is due in Peoria County court for a first appearance on May 25 at 9 a.m.
This is not Boland's first recorded traffic offense. He paid a ticket for driving 1 to 10 miles above the speed limit in 2015. Boland also paid a ticket for improper left hand turning in 1990 and underwent a driver's ed school fr driving 1 to 10 miles above the speed limit in 1988.
