A Peoria firefighter has passed away after a long battle with cancer.
Nick Riordan was diagnosed with metastatic neuroendocrine carcinoma last May, with a new baby girl on the way. He and his wife Sarah started a GoFundMe last year to raise money for medical costs, and a Facebook group, Team Riordan: Nick's Crew.
"It is with great sadness We report that our good-friend, Brother and co-worker Nick Riordan has passed away. Please continue to keep the Riordan's in your thoughts and prayers," said a Facebook post Tuesday from the Eureka-Goodfield Fire Protection District, where he formerly worked as a paramedic.
Several community fundraisers and benefits were also held on Riordan's behalf.
