A Peoria city councilman says it's time for a change, given the ongoing uncertainty after police chief Jerry Mitchell's abrupt retirement last month.
Councilman Chuck Grayeb says he worries about morale within the police department.
Another focus for Grayeb is the lack of communication between council and city manager Patrick Urich.
Several council members have told 25 news they weren't notified about the investigation into whether Mitchell had an inappropriate relationship with a female, civilian subordinate, first reported in the Journal Star.
"I expect that everyone on the council wants our city manager to look deep inside about what's happening and make some course corrections immediately," Grayeb said,
Urich responded, saying,"We feel that the issues have been addressed and we're going to continue to move forward from here. And I think that means we're going to go out on a national search. We're going to work towards improve the morale of the department. And that's our focus right now."
