Illinois leads in Personal body safety, now to be taught in 34 states

One brave,  Illinois woman wants everyone to know this troubling stat: an estimated 1 in 10 children will be sexually abused by age 18.(Darkness to Light)

Erin Merryn to Metamora high today for annual training on personal body safety named after her.


She told the students she was abused by two different men, starting at age 6.


"And as a society we put so much emphasis on this idea that the only ones that are going to hurt kids are strangers. When over 90 percent of the time it's someone a child knows and trusts that are hurting them," Merryn said.


Her "Erin's Law" was passed in Illinois five years ago.


And just last week, Wyoming and Virginia became the 33rd and 34 states to adopt yearly, required education of sex abuse and personal body safety...pre-k through senior year.
