Questions still loom over an investigation into the former Peoria police chief's conduct and if city officials were aware alleged "inappropriate behavior."
Jim Ardis, Mayor of Peoria, is continuing to avoid answering questions about Jerry Mitchell, the former police chief who abruptly stepped down from his post after an article was published in The Peoria Journal Star about Mitchell being under investigation for quote, "inappropriate behavior with a female subordinate."
After speaking at the civic center for the "media madness" press conference. Ardis answered questions from local media about city oversight.
"This continues to be the responsibility of the city manager. City council and myself don't get involved in any of the oversight on personal issues because that's not our job," said Ardis. "The city manager is are one and only employee."
When asked if he knew about the Mitchell investigation prior to it being reported he replied "You're welcome," and did not comment any further.
The city has not provided much detail into the investigation. Some city council members did speak to 25 News about their reaction, but said that they were not aware of the investigation.
