The Parkland, Fla. school shooting has many parents asking if their children are truly safe at school.
The frightening question has school officials around Peoria County working hard to make sure the answer is yes.
Superintendents, law enforcement, and court workers throughout the county held a brainstorming session this morning. They want to identify best practices and ways schools can be safer.
Peoria County Regional Superintendent of School Beth Derry says it's a conversation that will never end.
"This is not going to be a quick fix. This is not a one solution. We're going to have to come up with multiple ways to come at this problem," said Derry.
The regional superintendent adds improving communication between districts is another focus of school security.
