If things seemed wetter than usual last month, it wasn't just your imagination.
Illinois State Climatologist Jim Angel said last month was the wettest February on record, with a statewide average precipitation of 5 inches, 2.9 inches above normal. This beat the old record of 4.4 inches set back in 2008.
The highest reported monthly total for precipitation was in Streator with 11.45 inches, followed by Cobden with 10.88 inches. The highest snowfall total was in Aurora with 26 inches. Much of northern Illinois saw 10 to 25 inches of snowfall in February, while areas south of Springfield reported less than an inch.
