The Normal Police Department's K9 has died after battling recent arthritis and other health issues.
In a Facebook post, the department said K9 Gunner died peacefully Friday morning.
"Please keep the NPD family, but, especially Ofc. Bachman and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Gunner was Ofc. Bachman's partner for several years of his career. The loss of his partner is very difficult," said the department. "These dogs are selfless and give 100% to our Department and the community they serve. We are sure Gunner is chasing tennis balls like no other! Thank you for your service Gunner!"
In another Facebook post, the Bloomington Police Department said "our hearts are heavy" after hearing of Gunner's passing. Gunner also worked with the BPD as part of a mutual aid partnership.
