Bloomington man arrested for stealing fentanyl patches from nursing home residents

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WEEK) -- -

A Bloomington man was arrested Tuesday on multiple counts of theft and burglary after reportedly removing fentanyl skin patches from residents in the nursing homes where he worked. 

James Rellihan, 31, was arrested by the Bloomington Police Department's Vice Unit. The Pantagraph reports Rellihan removed three fentanyl patches from a terminally ill man at the Bloomington Rehabilitation and Health Center on Feb. 24, allegedly telling him "It will be OK." Rellihan also reportedly removed a fentanyl patch from a man with dementia at Heritage Health in Normal on Feb. 26. 

Rellihan's bond was set at $50,000 in McLean County Court.
