Man found guilty of murder in shooting near Festival of Lights

The suspect in a fatal shooting at an East Peoria home a little over a year ago has been found guilty of first degree murder. The Pekin Times reports it only took a Tazewell County jury 75 minutes to reach that verdict.

According to the paper, prosecutors maintained 48 year old Kenneth Ohler went to a home on Springfield Road to confront his former friend and coworker. But, when that friend wasn't there, Ohler shot and killed the man's father, 60 year old Michael Dixon. Ohler then shot himself in the chest but survived the injury. His defense argued Ohler's gun fired accidentally when Dixon grabbed for it.

Ohler's sentencing is scheduled for March 29th.
