Governor Bruce Rauner visits Morton business, calls for less regulations to grow jobs

Posted: Updated:

Governor Bruce Rauner visited Morton on Wednesday to take a tour of Morton Industries, LLC, a tubing fabricator. During his time there the Governor got a tour of the facilities, learning about the pipes they make for companies such as Caterpillar, John Deere, and Komatsu. Morton Industries has actually significantly increased its workforce recently, now employing around 670 workers, and looking to hire more.

While this local business is seeing success, Rauner cautioned employees that other companies haven't been as fortunate. And he blames that on too many regulations on Illinois businesses.

"It's hurting our competitiveness. It's hurting our ability to grow, and it's pushing a lot of your fellow businesses out of the state, pushing businesses to Indiana, Wisconsin or down to Texas," Governor Rauner said as he addressed workers.

Rauner also cited difficulties recruiting new companies to come to Illinois due to our high property taxes. However, his trip wasn't all talking business. The governor did take some time out to snap a few selfies with some of those Morton employees.
